Link here to use the Online Danzan Ryu Class Registration Form to sign up to attend the exceptional Danzan Ryu classes and clinics listed below. This is a chance for you to deepen your knowledge of Danzan Ryu from the comfort of your own home. All classes are taught by master AJJF instructors.

Some classes are open to beginners and new members. Some classes have rank requirements. Some classes require sensei or instructor permission. If you are currently a student at an AJJF dojo, please check with your sensei for permission to take AJJF online Danzan Ryu classes.

Class Title:
Drills n Skills: Solo Drills for Striking, Throwing, and Grappling

Class Description:
We will cover drills that you can do on your own at home to improve your skills in striking, throwing, and grappling. Get ready for a workout!

Activity Level: Brief lecture (for video presentations), mostly active.

Materials Needed:
Optional: gi
Needed: obi, exercise band, or equivalent, and a door or other sturdy object that the obi or band can attach to or wrap around; 10' circle of space; flooring suitable for grappling drills: pad if on a hard floor, carpet, or equivalent.

Instructor Bio:
Professor Nerissa Freeman began studying Danzan Ryu Jujutsu in 1990 with Cynthia Frueh Sensei. She earned the rank of shodan in 1995 and went on to study other martial arts, including judo, western boxing, pentjak silat ratu adil, and muay thai. Currently, she studies Toyama Ryu Battodo under Mike Esmailzadeh Sensei. In 2012, she founded and is the current school head of Wasenshi Kan Martial & Healing Arts in Roseville, California. Her training has also included the healing arts. She has been a licensed physical therapist since 1997 and is also a Certified Massage Therapist. She has completed Advanced Training in Danzan Ryu Restorative Therapy and is also a graduate of the Basic Level of the Original Okazaki Restoration Massage under Keith Okazaki Sensei. She has hosted or co-hosted many AJJF events and has volunteered in various administrative roles within the AJJF continuously since 1998. She is currently serving on the Danzan Ryu Seifukujitsu Standards Committee. The emphasis on personal growth, service to others and the community, as well as the many lifelong friendships she has made are have what kept her in the martial and healing arts. She is guided in her Danzan Ryu Jujutsu studies by her current sensei, Professor Sheryl Hager, school head of the Redding Jujitsu Academy.

Intermediate Level Class - Professor Hillary Kaplowitz - I <3 Jujitsu! (even if it's online)

I <3 Jujitsu! (even if it's online)

Class Description:
While online jujitsu is not ideal, there are still lots of things we can do to not only keep our training going, but also improve our skills. I will share some of my favorite online training practices in this active workout class. You will be asked to have a few optional household items on hand - the list will be sent closer to the time of the class.

Gi is optional for this class.

Instructor Bio:
Professor Hillary Kaplowitz is Sensei of Pacific JuJitsu Kai and has been teaching for the City of Santa Monica since 2000. Professor Kaplowitz began training in 1977 in the youth program at the Santa Monica YMCA under Sensei Jim Nieto, where they also competed on the Judo team. After a hiatus, they went on to train under a number of Sensei including Mike Lynch and Ed Cook, receiving their black belt in 1998 from Professors William Randle and Leif Bennett. Professor Kaplowitz then began studying under Professor Robert Hudson in 2000. They received the title of Kyoshi from their Sensei in 2008 and attended the 2013 Okugi with him, receiving a Shihan Kaidensho from Professor Tony Janovich. Professor Kaplowitz is an instructor in the Danzan Ryu Seifukujitsu Institute and has served various volunteer leadership positions in the American Judo & Jujitsu Federation. In addition, Professor Kaplowitz is a professional educator and has a graduate degree in instructional design and technology.

Black Belt Level Class - Professor Tom Ryan - Progression in Our Advanced Arts

Progression in Our Advanced Arts - Internalization of the Why

Class Description:
Investigating why arts look different as rank progresses. Internalizing the why techniques do what they do. Looking at black belt arts differently.

Activity Level: Moderate, approximately 50-50 ration of lecture to activity during the class.

Gi is optional for this class.

Instructor Bio:
My name is Tom Ryan, Professor in Kodenkan Danzan Ryu Jujitsu. I began my martial career in 1962 with boxing at the local recreation center. I was a swimmer, wrestler, track and field and football in High School. I was drafted into the US ARMY were I began studying Tae Kwon Do and Judo. I discovered DZR in 1982 in Eureka, CA. I found my home. I am continually learning the hidden inner secrets (that have been there the entire time but my blinders would not let me see them). My nature is one of a researcher who always is searching for the why.
