Since 1974, Camp Kodenkan North has been one of the best and most unique places to train in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu. At Camp, people often find that they have the opportunity to delve deeper into DZR. Professors and senior instructors are readily available for conversation or special classes. There is also plenty of leisure time, good food, storytelling, and more! Camp North is appropriate for all ranks, ages 18 and over (exceptions can be made through the Camp Director). All Kyuranks are especially encouraged to attend. We will again have a raffle this year featuring a variety of martial arts items. Bring little cash for tickets, and you might win!
When is It?
Camp North will open Wednesday, June 5th for dinner. There will be a class held on Wednesday night, and additional classes will begin Thursday morning, June 6th. Classes on Thursday will be for brown and black belts only. Classes will run all day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and until lunch on Sunday. Classes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be available for all ranks, including classes for brown and black belts. Black Belt exams will be held on Friday only,but candidates are welcome to arrive on Thursday afternoon in order to be well rested and prepared for exams on Friday. Meals and lodging will be provided for black belt exam candidates.Exams will be held in the morning on Friday June 7th. There are only 6 slots available for testing.
Where is It?
Camp North is held at Oakland Feather River Camp in Quincy, CA, located in beautiful Plumas National Forest on Spanish Creek in Quincy, CA. With towering pines, cedars and black oaks, Oakland Feather River Camp is the ideal spot to host Camp North. There are over 300 beds available in 92 rustic, but civilized platform tents or cabins. The camp facility offers delicious, catered meals in a Dining Hall and Event-Tent Covered Patio with seating for over 270. There is also a historic outdoor amphitheater and veranda overlooking Spanish Ridge and Spanish Creek. Campers can swim in a swimming hole a 5-10 minute walk from Camp! Campers also have access to hundreds of miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horse trails in Plumas National Forest.
Driving Directions:From Sac, SF & Chico: Follow I-5/CA-70 N to Barlow Rd. in Plumas County.
From Redding & Northbound: Follow CA 44-E to CA-36 E in Paynes Creek. Follow CA-36 E and CA-89 S in Plumas County to Barlow Rd.
Turn left and follow Chandler/Oakland Camp Rd. Oakland Feather River Camp is at 5469 Oakland Camp Rd, Quincy, CA 95971. Approximate travel times to reach the camp are as follows:
From San Francisco: 4.5 hours | From Sacramento: 3 hours | From Redding: 2.75 hours | From Chico: 2 hours
Campers can be picked up at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport (closest commercial airport). Please make arrangements ahead of time for this service [please contact Camp Director(s).]
What Should I Bring?
Gi and extra Gi; old clothes suitable for camp life, including warm clothes and jacket for the evening; hiking boots or old shoes; sandals; sunglasses; sleeping bag and pillow; blanket(s); towel and washcloth; sunscreen; insect repellent; flashlight/head lamps; lip balm; toiletries; martial arts books and articles; board games; training weapons and gear, including sparring gear, sticks, staves, knives, etc. (NO LOADED WEAPONS PLEASE).
