AJJF Board of Professors

The Board of Professors (BOP) consists of the legal directors of the corporation and has the responsibility for the propagation and maintenance of the Danzan Ryu System.

Preserve and promote the quality and world-wide growth of Danzan Ryu.

Further Information

The Board of Professors is the primary governing body of the AJJF. Members are the legal Board of Directors of the corporation, and the corporate officers are elected from their ranks. The BOP is responsible for the preservation of the Danzan Ryu system, within the AJJF, and the growth of the AJJF.

A. Members of the Board of Professors

  1. The BOP shall consist of active holders of the title of Professor in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu as awarded by the AJJF.
    • “Active Professors” are defined in the corporate Bylaws.
  2. Honorary Titles: “Shihan” and “Honorary Professor”
    • The Board of Professors may, at their discretion, recognize ranks or award honorary titles to members of other martial arts organizations. Those people so honored will not be considered active members of the Board of Professors.

B. Responsibilities – The Board of Professors

  1. Shall insure that the AJJF adheres to all State and Federal Laws.
  2. Shall insure the continuation and growth of the Danzan Ryu system and the AJJF, within the stated goals and standards of the AJJF.
  3. Shall be responsible for the instruction and professional growth of the School Heads, Blackbelts, and members.
  4. Shall respond within two weeks after receipt of Operations Committee minutes to act on the Operations Committee decisions, if necessary. All decisions will be relayed to the Operations Committee for appropriate action by the CEO only or a designee.
  5. Shall be responsible for the appointment of new Professors.
  6. Shall be responsible for the election/appointment of the Senior Professor, President, Vice-president, Secretary, and Treasurer as required by the corporate Bylaws.

C. Powers

  1. The Board of Professors shall have jurisdiction over all matters relating to the administration, finances, instruction, and continuation of the AJJF. Such jurisdiction shall include, but not be limited to:
    1. Certification of schools, Blackbelts, and instructors.
    2. Disciplinary actions of members and schools.
    3. Review of the actions and decisions of the Operations Committee.
      1. The Board of Professors has complete veto power over the decisions and actions of the Operations Committee, without changing them.
      2. All vetoes must be returned to the Operations Committee prior to their next meeting with explanation and/or recommendations for the change. Otherwise, Board of Managers decisions will be considered approved by the Board of Professors.
    4. Selection of new professors from the ranks of available candidates.
    5. Election/appointment of the Senior Professor, President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer, and Chief Executive Officer.
    6. Standardization of all rank requirements, programs and techniques.

D. Corporation Officers

The Board of Professors shall appoint the following officers at the annual meeting of the AJJF for a term of three years, subject to annual confirmation, as required by the Bylaws.

  1. Senior Professor
    1. Responsibilities
      1. Maintain the integrity of the techniques and philosophy of the Danzan Ryu system within the AJJF.
      2. Be personally responsible for the instruction of the Professors, School Heads, and Blackbelts.
      3. Administer the Professors’ travel funds.
      4. Be the official speaker for the BOP to the membership and the general public.
    2. Duties
      1. Organize and administer classes and clinics for the instruction of professors and Blackbelts.
      2. Administrative: Schedule, Budget and Preparation of a financial report of Professors’ travel fund.
    3. If the Sr. Professor is unable to fulfill the responsibilities and duties of the Sr. Professor, the Sr. Professor’s Council will fulfill those obligations in the interim. Sr. Professor’s Council consists of two Professors selected by the Board of Professors.
  2. President
    1. Responsibilities
      1. Insure that the AJJF conforms to all State and Federal regulations and laws as defined by the corporation Bylaws.
      2. Be responsible for the continuation and growth of the AJJF.
      3. Implement the goals and directives of the Board of Professors.
      4. Communicate with the CEO to transmit all rules and decisions of the BOP to the Chair of the Operations Committee for implementation.
    2. Duties
      1. Be responsible for continuation and growth of the AJJF.
      2. Insure that the AJJF conforms to all State and Federal regulations and laws as defined by the corporation Bylaws.
  3. Vice-president of Instruction and External Affairs
    1. Responsibilities
      1. Implement the goals and directives of the Board of Professors and Senior Professor for instruction of the Danzan Ryu System.
      2. Fulfill the duties of the President if the President is unable to perform them.
      3. Be the official liaison between the AJJF School heads and the Board of Professors for matters related to instruction of the Danzan Ryu system.
      4. Be the official liaison between the AJJF and other organizations, such as Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), and American Jujitsu Institute (AJI).
      5. Seek to expand relations with other martial arts organizations.
    2. Duties
      1. Develop programs for the instruction of the School Heads.
      2. Monitor the activities of the Manager of Clinics and Contests and insure that there is an active instructional program.
  4. Secretary of the Board of Professors
    1. Responsibilities
      1. Insure that all records of the AJJF are recorded, maintained, and stored as required by the corporation Bylaws.
      2. Maintain records of all official BOP correspondence.
      3. Maintain records of all BOP meetings.
      4. Inform the Operations Committee Secretary of any changes in the School Handbook.
    2. Duties
      1. Maintain records of updated Bylaws changes.
      2. Brings the School Handbook, minutes book, and Bylaw changes to the BOP meetings.
  5. Chief Executive Officer
    1. Responsibilities
      1. Schedule and chair four BOP meetings yearly as required by the corporate Bylaws, and insure that the AJJF conforms to all regulations and laws as required by the corporation Bylaws.
      2. Communicate with the Senior Professor and President and transmit all rules and decisions of the BOP to the Chair of the Operations Committee for implementation.
      3. Monitor activities of the Operations Committee members to insure they are active and productive.
      4. Prepare a yearly statement of goals for the Operations Committee and the AJJF to be presented at the annual Convention.
      5. Direct the Chair of the Operations Committee to prepare an agenda for, and chair the annual School Heads Meeting.
    2. Duties
      1. Oversee the production of the Kodenkan Press.
      2. Be responsible for the continuation and growth of the AJJF.
      3. Insure the line of command is adhered to by the Board of Professors and the Operations Committee.
  6. Treasurer of the Board of Professors
    1. Responsibilities
      1. Insure that all financial records of the AJJF are maintained and stored as required by the corporation Bylaws.
      2. Insure that all state and federal tax forms are prepared and stored.
      3. Administer the finances of the BOP.
    2. Duties
      1. Prepare a yearly budget and financial report of the Board of Professors’ expenses.
      2. Prepare a financial report for the quarterly BOP meetings.
  7. Administrator of Curriculum (AOC)
    This office is responsible for maintaining, educating, and advising on all matters of DanZan Ryu technique, history, and philosophy, including clarifying and development of DanZan Ryu Kata as it pertains to the AJJF. The BOP has as a mandate the “preservation and propagation” of DanZan Ryu by way of the AJJF. The Administrator of Curriculum is the advisor to the BOP on matters of DZR and has the responsibility of maintaining the purity of DZR within the AJJF as well as continued development of the teaching of Master Okazaki. The duties of the AOC are to preserve and propagate DZR within the AJJF.
