RJA School Head
Hager Sensei has been a student of Dan Zan Ryu for over 30 years. She began her training with her mother and father, Jim and Jane Dean, in May 1966 at the RJA. In 1977, at the age of 17, Sheryl received her Shodan.
Sheryl has studied a wide range of other martial arts including; Parker’s Kenpo, Tai Chi, and Shotokan Karate. She formed the Hale O Lima Kokua Martial Arts Center in Sacramento in 1980 and continues to instruct special classes there.
Sheryl is a certified Massage Technician in the art of Seifukujitsu, has served
as an assistant instructor for the AJJF Massage Program and maintains her own
massage clinic at the RJA.
Sheryl received her Yodan in March, 2000 and was named School Head of the RJA
the same year, her rightful inheritance. Jane (Dean) Carr remains Shihan and
Chief Financial Officer.
Hachidan, 8th. degree Black Belt

Professor Carr began studying jujitsu with sensei Mike Byrne in 1960. Following Sensei Byrne’s retirement Professor Tom Ball became Professor Carr’s Shihan. Professor Carr is an original (1960) core member of the RJA and has been school head since.
Professor Carr has received a Dayan Isa (a first degree black belt) from Joe Bueno in Modern Arnis-Filipino Stick Play and has been the school head of the Redding Modern Arnis Club since 1985. She helped to establish the AJJF Okazaki Restorative Massage Program and was later named DZRSI of which she is still a standards committee member. She received her professorship in 1982.

Modern Arnis School Head
Sensei Scott holds the rank of Sandan in Dan Zan Ryu at the RJA where he began his studies at the age of 7. Sensei Scott also began training in Arnis in 1991 under Professor Carr. In December, 1997 Scott received his Lakan Isa in Modern Arnis from Professor Carr. Since then Scott has studied with Master Joe Bueno.
