Greetings Yudansha,

I am pleased to announce this year's Region I - Annual Black Belt Convention on October 16 - 18, 1998. It is to be held in Sacramento, California.

The theme for the Convention is ``Transitions - Kata to Application''. We chose this theme for specific reasons. We hope to offer something for all participants who wish to learn varied aspects of what we study. As instructors, we know the benefit of learning kata and ultimately teaching kata. But why kata? What does it teach us? What do we gain from it? These are important questions to be sure, and we will explore these areas, but of coarse, there is an entire universe beyond that. Which is where we will go next. This is our transition.

After working the mechanics and discussing the esoterics of the arts, we will then explore true application. How does the art pertain or work in real life? How is it applied or how could it be applied? This is our overall format for the convention. All boards (Yawara through Shinnin no Maki) will be covered including knife, gun, and club defenses.

Friday night from 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM, a Shinyo class for Nidans and above will be held at the Jujitsu Do Martial Arts Center in Citrus Heights, CA. A map to the dojo is enclosed. On Saturday and Sunday, all black belts will meet at Mira Loma High School in Sacramento. The work-out will be held in the school cafeteria. A map to the high school and the high school cafeteria are also enclosed.

Send your registration to 3718 Fawn Creek Ct. Antelope, CA 95843. The deadline for early registration is October 10, 1998, and it must be received by me by that date. The registration fee is $100.00. If you have any doubt that I might not receive it by the 10th, send it to Jujitsu-Do Martial Arts Center 7038 Sylvan Rd. Citrus Heights, CA 95610. Late registration (at the door) will also be available at a cost of $120.00. Registration includes instruction and workouts, lunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner for Saturday night.
